What I do...

Photography

Photography is just the most amazing thing; capturing light in such a way that can transport you to distant times and places at a mere glance. A photograph can help you remember and revisit, celebrate and share, learn and explore; it’s taken in in instant and can last forever. I prefer to photograph in a natural, candid, documentary style but also have experience of sports, portrait and product/object photography. I’m used to working to briefs and timescales, producing images for general or specific uses.

Design

I’ve been creating graphics for over a decade while working in web, events and recruitment as well as volunteering for a local charity. I’ve worked on the smallest logos to the largest set designs for exhibitions and conferences. I’m quite happy designing new graphics, updating old ones or recreating ones that are 'fuzzy'. I can produce logos, business cards, posters, leaflets, adverts, banners, web pages, presentation slides, brand guidelines (to name a few).

Art

Art is something I am still exploring (there’s quite a lot of it). I’ve tried quite a few mediums over the years and have many more to go. Most recently I’ve successfully (and enjoyably) done some some clay slab building, copper foiled stained glass and coiled clay pot building. However, historically I’ve tended to work on paper using paint, chalk, charcoal, pen or pencil. I’m starting to explore art using a digital canvas and am also gearing up to try some oil on traditional canvas (it makes such a mess of the iPad) sometime soon.

One more thing

I have wealth of knowledge and experience in event delivery including pre-event and on-site registration & delegate management, templates, signage, conference stands, speaker support and venue liaison. I’ve worked on recruitment campaigns, information exchanges, briefings & working groups as well as large conferences with thousands of attendees and multiple streams.

Who I am...

About me

Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I gained a BA(Hons) First in Photojournalism & Documentary Photography in 2010 and I am an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society. Art was one of the things I did a lot of and really enjoyed at school but got put aside for quite a few years. I picked it up again while doing a photography course before my degree. Graphic Design is something I grew into while I was a civil servant working in recruitment, web management and event delivery roles over about a decade.

Who inspires me

I find that inspirational work is never too far away; be that an unexpected piece of street art as you turn a corner, an abandoned building or place, a gallery or exhibition. Many photographers and artists have inspired and influenced me over the years for many different reasons... subject matter, style, perspective, composition, attitude, technique, equipment, approach, atmosphere etc. This page shows a few of them along with a short biography, some of my favourite images and links to find out more.
